As director of screen content for Metallica’s ‘The Full Arsenal’ tour, I was asked to create film sequences for 18 songs to be used on multiple LED and projection screens. This, uniquely, included ten coffins with embedded LED screens. Working with the lyrical content of the song ‘Cyanide’, I devised the idea of placing actors inside coffins with plexiglass lids. The actors, led by renowned physical theatre actor Marcello Magni, were asked to perform a six minute improvisation, based on the idea of waking up buried alive. Each actor’s performance was shown as a single continuous take on a coffin. Beneath them, Metallica played on an LED floor, transformed into a sea of giant, writhing maggots.
