Pulling Out All The Stops
A site-specific version of ‘On Your Wavelength’ designed for The Victoria Hall auditorium at Leeds Town Hall as part of Leeds Light Night, on October 5th and 6th 2017.
Visitors were invited to either watch or participate. Each participant influenced a 3 minute laser and music composition via an EEG headset, monitoring their brain activity.
They were directed to focus on a single thought or object. As their focus level changed, the composition would respond, with high levels of focus being rewarded with an intense white light arch created from laser fixtures.
The visual component consisted of 16 lasers and numerous lighting fixtures, illuminating the pipe organ and the participant.
The music composition was played on the Leeds Town Hall Pipe Organ, a monumental Victorian musical instrument.
The two evenings turned into impromptu ‘Mind Karaoke’ sessions, with a large crowd sitting on the floor applauding the efforts of participants at the end of each performance.
This installation was made possible with the support of Leeds City Council and ER Productions. It was covered by BBC’s ‘Look North’ news programme and on BBC Leeds local radio.
